In 2021 the National Park Service took a poll of several thousand visitors to the Statue of Liberty asking if they felt the monument accurately reflected modern American values. A shocking 90% of respondents said the statue needed a modern update. Wanting to keep up with the times, the NPS commissioned a dozen highly regarded artists to reinterpret the Statue of Liberty in ways that would more accurately reflect the times we live in. This exhibit displays the maquettes (models) submitted by eight of the artists.
